The Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) was created in 1999 to act as a catalyst to increase private sector participation in emerging markets. It provides technical assistance to governments to support the creation of a sound enabling environment for private service provision.
PPIAF's mission is to help eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable development through public-private partnerships in infrastructure.
PPIAF is appreciated by beneficiaries because it is fast and flexible: projects can be submitted, approved, and implemented in 12 weeks. This is particularly important when responding to events such as the financial crisis.
PPIAF has launched the Sub-National Technical Assistance (SNTA) Program to help subnational entities improve their creditworthiness so that they can access market-based financing on their own account without sovereign guarantees.
