Teaming Up to Support Subnational Water Utility in Brazil's Frontier Region PPIAF's SNTA program provided technical assistance to Companhia de Saneamento de Sergipe-DESO, the water company owned by the state government of Sergipe, to help the utility become ready to borrow on commerical terms. SNTA's assistance helped DESO substantially improve its ability to interact with financiers and contributed to DESO receiving a $11 million loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This SmartLesson is an example of how joint work between PPIAF, IFC, and the World Bank can deliver comprehensive support for a client. This lesson also shares how tapping complementarities between PPIAF, IFC, and the World Bank, such as leveraging the World Bank's relationship with governments, helping inexperienced borrowers articulate tehir story, and identifying hidden structuring opportunities, can contribute to successful activities. |
