SUDAN: Strengthening Sudan capacity to attract private sector investment in renewable energy
PPIAF, in partnership with the Energy GP, has been working to bolster Sudan's renewable energy sector to establish a foundation for competitive procurement of renewable energy sources with private sector engagement. The activity was integral to the World Bank's Sudan Energy Sector Recovery Technical Assistance Program. PPIAF's contribution focused on conducting cost-benefit analyses for renewable energy options. Two reports were successfully delivered and a workshop; however, two additional reports remained pending due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the suspension of the Bank's operations in the country in 2021. However, the commitment to Sudan's renewable energy future remains. As stability returns, Sudan will have the opportunity to harness its renewable energy potential and make progress towards a greener energy landscape.
